Performance and search scenarios

Handle slow responses, large lists, and unnecessary requests.

By Vishal Verma · Reviewed October 5, 2026

Practice these questions aloud. Give the principle, explain a concrete example, and finish with how you would verify the result.

1. How do you prevent one request per keystroke?

Suggested answer: Debounce input and require a sensible minimum search length. Track the latest request so an older response cannot overwrite newer results.

Scenario / follow-up: The user types fast and the first request returns last.

2. How would you display thousands of records?

Suggested answer: Avoid loading everything into the browser. Use bounded server queries, pagination or incremental loading, and only required fields. Consider the UX and supported component capabilities.

Scenario / follow-up: Measure payload size and render time before adding complexity.

3. Why use Lightning Data Service where it fits?

Suggested answer: It supplies supported record access and caching without a custom Apex controller. Choose custom Apex when the requirement needs queries or processing beyond the supported data adapters.

Scenario / follow-up: Explain the actual requirement instead of choosing Apex by default.
