Scenario: a bulk import breaks production

Walk through diagnosis, remediation, and regression verification.

By Vishal Verma · Reviewed October 5, 2026

Practice these questions aloud. Give the principle, explain a concrete example, and finish with how you would verify the result.

1. What do you check first?

Suggested answer: Identify the failed import, affected records, business impact, and exact error. Trace transaction-level automation and compare with recent changes.

Scenario / follow-up: Communicate impact before speculating about the cause.

2. What is your technical fix?

Suggested answer: If the evidence shows repeated queries or DML in loops, restructure collection processing. Review recursion and related automation. Preserve validations and security while reducing work.

Scenario / follow-up: Test representative bulk batches and mixed valid and invalid input.

3. How do you prove recovery?

Suggested answer: Replay in a safe environment, assert business outcomes, and validate deployment. Reprocess failed records using an agreed duplicate-safe strategy. Add monitoring for the original failure signal.

Scenario / follow-up: Name the owner of recovery and how users will know processing resumed.
