Scratch org to development org

Keep your Salesforce source portable with a clean deployment and verification workflow.

By Vishal Verma · Reviewed October 5, 2026

Treat the source in version control as the project you deploy. A scratch org is a development environment, not the permanent source of truth.

  1. Retrieve required metadata and review the changes before committing.
  2. List dependencies: objects, fields, permission sets, Apex, and other components.
  3. Use environment-specific configuration for endpoints and credentials.
  4. Validate the deployment in the target environment and run appropriate tests.
  5. Assign the required access and verify the feature with a representative user.

If a deployment fails, read the component-level error. Missing dependencies, unsupported features, and differences in access are common areas to investigate.
